Top School - Medium from jaxdonald on Vimeo.

The Top Team Challenge involves a number of team-based activities and challenges modelled on the traditional Top Town competition that first aired on New Zealand television in 1976.

Top Team games test teamwork, initiative, problem solving and communication skills. Students will be teamed up to compete against one another in a circuit of activity and obstacle stations. Sport Canterbury has designed Top Team Challenge activities specifically to cater to the needs of sporty as well as non-sporty students. This takes away the ‘intimidation’ factor, and builds confidence amongst non-participating youth to take part in future events, as well as being loads of fun.

On Wednesday 20 March our school participated in the Top Team Schools Challenge alongside neighbouring school - Seabrook McKenzie School.

We had heaps of fun!!

Room One likes ... from jaxdonald on Vimeo.

As part of our R.I.S.E learning this year our junior children have been investigating 'Who they are, What they have and How they fit.

They are learning to recognise what they are good at and things they like. When we put these two together we hope to find how we fit in our family, school and wider community and how we can contribute by being Active Citizens.

"First we wrote about all the things we like and enjoy doing.
They we drew the pictures.
We practiced reading our stories aloud with a buddy then we had turns   reporting these in front of the camera. Each buddy had a turn at being the reporter and then the camera person.
We used our iPads to take pictures of our art work and sent these by email to our teacher.
Our teacher put it together using iMovie and green screen technology."

This programme builds upon our 2012 theme L.I.F.E.
An acronym for how our Life Impacts Future Earth.
The message being that the actions we take and the

Season's Greetings and Happy New Year and salutations to all.

Welcome to 2013 and to all our previous and new whanau members.
It is exciting to be back at school for the 2013 year. We have started the year with three classes.

Room 1 - Whaea Jo. Year 1
Room 2 - Whaea Alice - Year 2 - 3
Room 3 - Whaea Sharon. Year 3, 4, 5, 6

This year I will be fulfilling a number of roles - you could say “a Jack of all trades.” Every morning and afternoon I will be available to assist you in the school office.
The office hours this year are: 8.30 - 10.30 am  2.30 - 3.15 pm

Three afternoons a week I will be teaching a variety of ICT skills to groups of children, on top of my principal responsibilities.

Last year we had a very exciting and successful year and this year our aim is to continue our learning journey and to raise our school’s visibly in our community and strengthen our connections to our community.

This year our focus has been “L.I.F.E - How our Life Impacts Future of Earth”, and this year every member of our school has made a positive Impact on the Future of Earth in one way or another.  Here is a review of all the projects our children have been involved in - Awesome of Richmond School.

Graduation 2012 from jaxdonald on Vimeo.

Every year we are raising our standards and raising our practices in order to ensure that we are sending our children away equipped better than ever before. This year we are proud to send a cohort of  very fine, year six, young men and women into the big wide world.
From the first day of school our message is consistent - we expect children to become Te RITO kids, self-managing leaders of their own learning, responsible for their choices and their outcomes. After three years, this message is becoming thoroughly imbedded and the results are clear for all to see.
Children we have interviewed expressed very strongly that they were much better prepared because they know how to be “Responsible, Independent, Thoughtful and Onto-It children. We were absolutely thrilled to hear this as we strongly believe in teaching children to be goal setters and to take responsibility for themselves, their behaviour and their learning.
The difference that pleases us is the knowledge that our children are now leaving us in year six with the necessary self-managing qualities to be successful.
We want to wish them happiness and success as they move toward the next stage of their learning journey. We want to send them away with the challenge to believe in themselves, as we believe in them, and strive to continue to be Te RITO kids always.

5 + a DAY 2012 - Medium from jaxdonald on Vimeo.

5+a DAY Shared Lunch & Dress Up Day November is ‘5 + A Day Fruit and Vegetable Month’, and to promote healthy eating in our school and celebrate the abundance of healthy options available, whaea Alice and room 2 organised a 5+a Day Shared Lunch and Dress Up Day. Parents and whanau were invited to participate in a shared lunch and 5+ a day snacks, and children were encouraged to dress in the colours of their favourite fruit. Each class made a healthy snack to share with the wider school - room 1 made fruit smoothies and fresh fruit juice, room two made hot vegetable soup, and room three made fruit skewers. More photos are available on our school website: richmond.school.nz or facebook.com/TeRito.School

7 Days from jaxdonald on Vimeo.

We were fortunate to have the comedy programme '7 Days' contact our school to feature on 'My Kid Can Draw That' on their Live Tour Show to Christchurch in November 2013.

Our senior and junior class drew pictures of the selected news items and Hannah and Joseph were selected to present their pictures on the show.

As this show is rate AO, I have taken the liberty to edit it to a more suitable PG rating for our community to enjoy.

Raising Richmond from the Rubble from jaxdonald on Vimeo.

"This year the children at Richmond School have been learning about ‘L.I.F.E’ - How our Life Impacts the Future of our Earth. ‘By having a vision and caring about the Future, our life will have a positive impact.’ Our Richmond School children saw a need in our community and with support from the CDHB Health Promotor, we were able to develop purposeful thinking and meaningful learning experiences for our children. The outcome for the year’s teaching and learning was for our children to collectively develop an action plan that will make a positive impact in our school and wider community. Each class had the responsibility of developing an Action Plan to demonstrate this and thereby help care for our community. Our senior class took the opportunity to plan and create a Rubble Renewal project on the Methodist Church site on Stanmore Road. For the past few weeks they have worked tirelessly to prepare a community garden space for all to enjoy and care for."
